In AD 303, Emperor Diocletian ordered Bibles everywhere rounded up and burned, and the Christian Scriptures destroyed. Instead, Diocletian perished; and within 25 years, the next emperor commissioned Eusebius to prepare 50 copies of the Bible at the expense of the government.

Centuries later, the French infidel Voltaire claimed that within 100 years, the Bible would be forgotten and Christianity would be swept from existence. But Voltaire died in 1778, and within 50 years the Geneva Bible Society was using his press and his house to print Bibles.

No other book has been so hated, vilified, attacked, abused, burned, banished, criticized, and despised. Yet it is history’s best seller, read today and loved by billions.

As H. L. Hastings put it: “Infidels for 1800 years have been refuting and overthrowing this book, and yet it stands today as solid as a rock. Its circulation increases, and it is more loved and cherished and read today than ever before.”

That’s our Bible!

Not only is this remarkable Book (and more than a “book”) the world’s best-seller, loved by Christians and held in superstitious awe by some, it is the only source of knowledge concerning God. Everything else we hear about God comes directly from the thought-processes of man and may be termed “religious philosophy”.

No other Book is quite like it, claiming God as the direct Author. It is unique in its claim of Divine Authorship. God Himself superintended and directed the writing through human authors.

2 Timothy 3:16 tells us that it was “God-breathed” through the minds of men. It is inspired by God Himself – “breathed out” by His Spirit.

The Bible does not contain the groping of fallible men after Truth – it IS Truth. “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.” – John 17:17.

It is the gradual unfolding of God’s plan and purpose, revealed to us by His Spirit and, therefore, may only be properly interpreted with the assistance of the Spirit according to 2 Peter 1:21.

Some read the Bible as literature; others read it as history or for educational purposes, but the Scriptures have been given to mankind for a specific purpose – to bring to us the salvation message.

“.. the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” – 2 Timothy 3:15

Jesus Himself recognized its Divine authority and considered it essential for our spiritual well-being.

• “But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’” – Matthew 4:4

• “Jesus answered and said to them, “You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God.” – Matthew 22:29

This is a supernatural Book, bringing supernatural life to all who take its message seriously.

Cellphone vs The Bible

What would happen if we treated our Bible like we treat our cell phone?

• What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets?
• What if we flipped through it several times a day?
• What if we turned back to go get it if we forgot it?
• What if we used it to receive messages from the text?
• What if we treated it like we couldn’t live without it?
• What if we gave it to Kids as gifts?
• What if we used it when we travelled?
• What if we used it in case of emergency?

Oh, and one more thing.. Unlike our cellphone, we don’t have to worry about our Bible being disconnected because Jesus already paid the bill.

None of them are Bible College students or have any serious University training. What do you think the result would be?

Our amazing Book – the Bible – was written over a period of 1400 years by around 40 different people, inspired by God, the Holy Spirit. They lived in different times and places and the majority never even saw the work of their fellow-writers.
